Artificial intelligence (AI) is opening up new possibilities for public health research. At the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), AI is used in research to be able to analyse health data more efficiently, predict disease outbreaks more accurately and better support evidence-based decision-making. At the same time, research is being conducted into new AI approaches so that they can be further developed specifically for epidemiological questions.
The Centre for Artificial Intelligence in Public Health Research (ZKI-PH)
The ZKI-PH consolidates AI research activities at the RKI and advances methods for application in public health. Its key research areas include:
- Analysing biological data using AI to gain new insights in health research
- Developing models for AI-supported prediction of disease outbreaks
- Developing innovative visualisation techniques to make complex health data comprehensible and accessible
- Utilising AI, machine learning, and decision science to analyse large and complex datasets in public health
The ZKI-PH develops models and simulations, supports the transfer of existing solutions into public health applications, and prepares research findings and underlying data for the public and policymakers.
