Epidemic Intelligence
Date: 02/12/2021

Epidemic Intelligence is dedicated to the early detection, evaluation and communication of information regarding disease outbreaks and threatening communicable diseases with the aim of protecting the population from infectious diseases through early warning and risk assessment. The core tasks at the RKI include the development and enhancement of methods for the risk assessment of infectious and biotoxic disease events and the organisation of the weekly epidemiological situation conference with the federal states (EpiLag).
Epidemic Intelligence and Public Health Intelligence are closely interlinked. To improve the assessment of the epidemiological situation and risk of international health events, Public Health Intelligence carries out assessments and prepares reports that are used for questions of international health protection. At the RKI, the Information Centre for International Health Protection (INIG) is responsible for this area.
