RKI course "Infectious disease epidemiology"

The course (English language) offers a theoretical and practical overview of aims and responsibilities of infectious disease epidemiology as well as its interface with other disciplines and clinical practice.

The course introduces through lectures and interactive exercises the aims and scope of infectious disease epidemiology explaining the links to laboratory and clinical practice. Key concepts of pathogen transmission dynamics, infectious disease surveillance, prevention and control strategies, main principles of epidemiological research, study design and the fundamentals of statistical analysis are discussed at fourteen seminars. A range of different infectious diseases (e.g. sexually transmitted, vaccine-preventable, hospital-acquired, respiratory and gastrointestinal infections) is used as examples.

The course is open for under- and postgraduate students and guests free of charge. A certificate of attendance will be given to all participants who attend the course on a regular basis.
