Climate justice, communication, and options for action – Part 3 of the German Status Report on Climate Change and Health 2023

Special Issue S6/2023 is the third and final part of the German Status Report on Climate Change and Health. Scientists from various disciplines contribute articles on issues that intersect with all individual topics of the previous two parts, thus concluding the status report.

The first article addresses climate justice from a public health perspective. A literature review and the individual contributions of the first two parts of the status report provide the basis for a conceptual model on the relationship between climate change impacts, social dimensions, vulnerability, and health equity.

The second article describes an empirical study on the communication of climate issues using primary data. It discusses the relationship between risk perception, readiness to act, and media use. Target group-specific communication is one of the status report's overarching recommendations for action; this article provides an important foundation.

To conclude the status report, the third article takes up all the options for action from the ten thematic articles of the preceding issues, clusters them, and identifies meta-action levels and potential success factors. It formulates target parameters for public health and offers a starting point for the implementation of measures promoting adaptation to the health effects of climate change.
