Renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between RKI and GIZ Strengthens Global Health Cooperation

On 10 February 2025, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a further two years, thereby underlining the strong commitment of both institutions to fostering international collaboration in global health.

The signing ceremony, which was attended by high-ranking representatives, took place at RKI in Berlin, and speeches were delivered by Prof. Dr. med. Lars Schaade, President of RKI, and Anna Sophie Herken, Managing Director of the GIZ, emphasised the importance of this cooperation.

The event also provided an opportunity for participants to discuss future joint initiatives. Since the initial agreement in 2022, RKI and GIZ have worked closely together, combining their expertise in infectious disease surveillance, strengthening health systems, and emergency preparedness.

The renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is indicative of a continued commitment to leveraging synergies and exploring new areas of cooperation. This extended partnership will enable both organisations to integrate their efforts even more effectively, thereby supporting long-term improvements in global health through knowledge sharing, capacity building, and joint projects. It is anticipated that this collaboration will generate a positive impact.
