The sample can take two routes: If it is a pathogen according to §7 para. 1, the primary laboratory sends the sample/isolate including the notification ID to the NRZ or KL. The NRZ or KL analyses the pathogen and sends the raw sequence data including the notification ID to the RKI. If it is a pathogen according to §7 para. 3, the primary laboratory sends the sample/isolate including the notification ID directly to the RKI. In both cases, the RKI prepares and analyses the whole genome. The laboratory report can also take two routes: If it is a pathogen according to §7 para. 1, the primary laboratory reports the pathogen detection including the notification ID via DEMIS to the responsible health authority. The public health department transmits the notification including the notification ID to the state authority. The state authority transmits the notification including the notification ID to the RKI. If it is a pathogen according to §7 para. 3, the primary laboratory reports the pathogen detection including the notification ID directly to the RKI via DEMIS. At the RKI, the case data from these two strands of the sample and the laboratory report are merged in the IGS Data Warehouse using the report ID.
