Flowchart: Initial suspicion of Ebola virus disease (EVD) – Advice for physicians in Germany to help recognize probable cases of EVD (German case definition)

Physicians should consider a potential EVD for patients with corresponding symptoms and travel history. A probable case of EVD can only be considered (in simple terms) for those patients having returned from Ebola virus-epidemic areas within the last 21 days (see, in German). In addition, these patients should at least have fever or other symptoms and have been in direct contact with confirmed or deceased EVD patients in affected areas, including direct contact to their body fluids or to sick animals. Detailed information is displayed in this flowchart.
