Fighting the Ebola Virus Disease in an Up-to-Date and Sustainable Manner – EFFO –

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) recently launched a new website informing visitors about the EFFO project. EFFO stands for "Effizienz durch Fortbildung" (Efficiency by Edification) and is a training programme for healthcare facilities in West Africa that need to identify and care for suspected Ebola cases. EFFO, which is financed by the German Federal Ministry of Health, was initiated by the RKI in cooperation with the Permanent Working Group of Medical Competence and Treatment Centres for highly contagious and life-threatening diseases (STAKOB) during the peak of the Ebola outbreak. Another German partner cooperating in the programme is the Medical Mission Institute in Würzburg. EFFO forms part of the RKI's long-term commitment to the fight against the current outbreak of the Ebola virus disease. The training measures that were developed together with African partners can also be applied to other highly contagious diseases and aim to improve the handling of infectious diseases on a long-term basis. Alongside ABiG, EFFO is yet another RKI website focusing on the topic of unusual biological events.
