RKI as a partner oft he Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN)

The Global Outbreak Alert & Response Network (GOARN) is a network of more than 200 partners ready to respond to infectious disease outbreaks worldwide – among them the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Public Health England, UNICEF, Médecins sans Frontières, and the Robert Koch Institute. GOARN is based at the World Health Organisation (WHO) headquarters in Geneva.

On request, RKI staff regularly supports GOARN in tackling outbreaks, mostly in African and Asian countries – the latest deployments were e.g. on Madagascar (plague), in Nigeria (lassa fever) and in Bangladesh (Diphtheria).

In 2019, the institute has been granted by the WHO with the status of a WHO Collaborating Centre for GOARN.
