Committee for Environmental Public Health

The Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) has appointed the Committee for Environmental Public Health at the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for a third appointment period (2022 to 2026). The work of the Committee's coordination office is carried out in close cooperation with the German Environment Agency (UBA) and is located in Unit 24 "Health Reporting" of the RKI.

The committee is tasked with advising RKI and UBA on current issues in the field of environmental health as well as environmental medicine. In addition to advising on climate-relevant effects on health, the focus is on the assessment of environment-related (biological, physical, chemical and socio-ecological) health risks for the population and the implementation of preventive measures. Other key areas of work are stocktaking of the available data for research into environment-related health risks, recommendations for improving it as well as quality assurance of environmental medical care for the population.

In agreement with the BMG and in coordination with UBA, a multidisciplinary team of seventeen experts from the fields of health sciences, environmental epidemiology and environmental medicine was appointed to the committee for a four-year-period.
