Tasks

Conduct scientific research in the field of artificial intelligence with a particular focus on Public Health:

• Work independently on exciting research projects at the interface of public health, climate impact research, and AI ethics

• Collaborate across disciplines and departments within the RKI to combine and augment the RKI’s expertise in the research on public health and social inequities with artificial intelligence methods, e.g., through:

  • Identification and evaluation of specific requirements for the responsible use of AI in public health research
  • Implementation of relevant measures to reduce structural biases and other inequities in AI-based climate and societal research
• Develop novel algorithms/methods, manage and integrate data and provide quality assurance for this work

Preparation of scientific reports and publications, as well as assistance with science outreach/communication activities, e.g.:

• Publication of research results in national and international journals with high impact factor
• Presentation of research results at national and international congresses
• Close cooperation with colleagues in the context of the communication/events & public relations work of the ZKI-PH

Your profile

Educational requirements

• Doctorate and relevant work experience in a subject of relevance to the research conducted at the ZKI-PH
• PhD preferred

For foreign educational qualifications, we require proof of equivalence with a German degree.

Required skills and experience

• Research experience in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and/or deep learning in one or more areas of research related to the ZKI-PH
• Research experience in the field of AI ethics and social inequities
• Experience in public health topics
• Experience in quantitative data analysis and in handling complex bodies of data
• Highly developed skills in scientific publishing as well as the presentation of research results

Desirable skills and experience:

• Experience in the coordination and/or management of scientific projects
• Experience in presenting complex (scientific) topics in an understandable way
• Knowledge of sources of third-party funding and experience in acquiring funding via this route
• Knowledge on climate change and public health
• first professional experience in the field of AI ethics

Further requirements

• Language skills: English at least C1; German A2 and willingness to acquire German skills via self-directed studies
• Complete list of publications and list of previous/ongoing externally funded projects with funding details
