Strengthening public health systems

Prof. Dr. Lothar H. Wieler, president of the Robert Koch Institute, has been elected to join the IANPHI Executive Board, effective immediately. IANPHI is the International Association of National Public Health Institutes with approximately 100 member organizations from 88 nations. IANPHI’s mission is to facilitate a global knowledge exchange among public health experts, and to support the strengthening of health systems. For member institutions from low and middle income countries, IANPHI also provides financial and technical assistance, as well as support for building public health infrastructure. IANPHI’s member countries represent almost 80 percent of the world’s population.
Lothar H. Wieler has been president of the Robert Koch Institute since 2015. As part of the institute’s strategy for 2025, Wieler has expanded the RKI’s activities in the area of global health, a policy area that was also discussed at the G20 for the first time this year. This underlines it significance not just for the RKI but the Federal Government and the global community.
