Prioritization of pathogens
The Department for Infectious Disease Epidemiology of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) is in charge of the surveillance, prevention, control and epidemiological research of infectious diseases on a national level. Together with external experts it has conducted a prioritization process with the objective of
- developing a system for the definition of priorities in the field of infectious diseases and
- classifying the most frequent pathogens in respect of their significance for national surveillance and epidemiological research
and to create in this way a basis for strategic and conceptional decisions of RKI in the field of infectious disease epidemiology.
