Prioritization of pathogens

The Department for Infectious Disease Epidemiology of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) is in charge of the surveillance, prevention, control and epidemiological research of infectious diseases on a national level. Together with external experts it has conducted a prioritization process with the objective of

  1. developing a system for the definition of priorities in the field of infectious diseases and
  2. classifying the most frequent pathogens in respect of their significance for national surveillance and epidemiological research

and to create in this way a basis for strategic and conceptional decisions of RKI in the field of infectious disease epidemiology.
